The Crude Oil & LNG Tanker Group (CLG) covers the global market for owners and operators of Crude Oil and LNG Tankers. The Crude Oil Tanker market has seen a dramatic increase in newbuilding activity over the past years, encouraged by high growth in demand from emerging markets, especially China, and the prospect of single hull tanker phase out from 2010. LNG is another growth sector with massive investments in Qatar and a proliferation of smaller projects as the value and strategic importance of LNG has been recognised. To date most orders have been placed against long term contracts, but we are seeing the emergence of a spot or short term charter market supporting excess plant capacity and gas trading.
